The Extended Story

Space Trayn is the musical baby of singer-songwriter and guitarist Jerome Vivino. Space Trayn creates a unique blend of funk, jazz, soul, and classic rock, drawing from a wide array of influences spanning from Led Zeppelin to Wes Montgomery, Vulfpeck to Hiatus Kaiyote, and more.

Ten years after dropping out of the Wharton School of Business at UPenn and transferring to Berklee College of Music, Jerome yet again had to follow his heart and make a tough decision. In 2021, he quit his full-time job during the pandemic to pursue his dream of having a music career. After living and performing in Austin, TX for 6 years, Jerome was ready to take on a new musical endeavor based off of his own songwriting and vision, and thus Space Trayn was born.

Without a band initially, and facing restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 Pandemic, Jerome decided to take an unconventional route when recording this project. He decided to collaborate with fellow Berklee alumni Jack Victor and Michael H. Johnson (both of Midnight Snack and Slow Packer). Since they were based out of Asheville, NC, the collaboration was mostly digital. Jerome tracked all the guitars and vocals in his home studio in Austin, and then Jack and Mike recorded their respective rhythm section parts at The Cat's Claw studio in Asheville. After receiving the project files from across the country, Jerome re-recorded all of his parts to better fit in with the rhythm section, and the first Space Trayn songs were born. Mixed by Max Lorenzen and mastered by Terra Nova Mastering, the debut single "All Aboard" as well as the full Not So Fast EP were released in the Fall of 2021.

After the first EP was given life, Jerome was on a mission to find a band to perform live in Austin, Texas. He initially was introduced to Noah Wise by a mutual friend, and the two began playing songs as a guitar duo. Soon after Justin Murawski was added to the fold on bass. Now all they needed was a drummer. During Austin's famous Free Week, in early January of 2022, Jerome linked up with Swimming With Bears' drummer Ryan Hannasch, and the first iteration of Space Trayn's live ensemble was born. The group played their first show a few weeks later to a very positive reception.

After Noah left the band to pursue his own musical endeavors, Jerome, Justin and Ryan decided to stay as a power trio. They quickly accumulated 2 hours worth of original music and played throughout Austin for the next few months until Ryan left the band in May. Left again without a drummer, Jerome knew it wouldn't be long before the universe would conspire. The next month, while working at a hat store on South Congress, Jerome met a coworker who was crushing it on his practice drum pad during a lull at work. After an invitation to jam, Jordan Espinoza (formerly of Nané and Sam Pace & the Gilded Grit) instantly proved himself a worthy replacement. By August of 2022 ,the band had successfully returned to the stages of Austin.

In February of 2023, Space Trayn recorded their second EP entitled We Have Lyftoff with renown Austin rock producer Chris "Frenchie" Smith at The Bubble Studios in Austin, Texas. Jordan on drums and Justin on bass provided an intricate and groovy rhythm section for the EP while Jerome delivered with crooning vocals and gripping guitar solos. The lead single "Red Lipstick" was featured on several Austin-based radio stations and was featured as KUTX 98.9 FM's Song of the Day in May.

In June of 2023, Scott McIntyre (of Nané) took over the reigns on bass, and the current lineup has been getting tighter as a power trio ever since. They have recently played live on Fox 7 Good Day Austin twice and have been making a name for themselves throughout Austin.
